It's heavily implied she can tell when a person dies and their spirit joins the Lifestream, like when she tells her foster mother Elmyra that her husband has lost his life, or when Zack Fair falls she looks up to the sky, feeling him slipping away but denying it later. Aerith is not weak: she fights with a metal rod, and is rather skilled in using it, and capable of defending herself, but rather than using hand-to-hand combat, she prefers magic. Given the right materia (the substance that allows the usage of magic in her world), she can be a very powerful mage. When she first meets Cloud, Aerith asks him about materia, and tells him that she also has some, but it doesn't do anything. But then she claims that it doesn't matter, since it's something she got from her mother, so she feels safe just having it. What she doesn't know is that the materia she has is the White Materia, the special one capable of summoning Holy to protect the Planet. She later discovers this and goes to the Temple of the Ancients, using the materia to pray and summon Holy, but is killed in the process. personality; Aerith is basically a very cheerful person, often telling her comrades to be happy and not look so glum, that everything's really all right, or they will make it so. She laughs and smiles just like any other girl would, despite the heavy burden she carries. She's gentle and caring, always looking out for her friends and respecting them for who they are. Despite being playful and sometimes being scolded for it, in the end she only does it for her friends: she drags Cloud on a date with her to cheer him up, to distract him from the hunt for Sephiroth and all the other bad things, and makes him cross-dress in order to rescue Tifa, as well as leaving Barret on his own at Gold Saucer because she thinks he needs some time alone, to sort out his thoughts. Still, she takes serious things seriously, not forgetting their aim or her own duties for a moment - but hey, everyone needs a rest once in a while, right? No need to worry about everything all the time. Aerith often insists that she's not weak and is capable of doing things herself, like mocking Cloud for wanting to escort her back to her house through the slum area she knows very well herself, or for wanting her out of the old lech Corneo's mansion, saying that he and Tifa can handle things there. Granted, she doesn't hesitate to ask for help when she needs it, but not once does she complain - she did indeed grow up in the slums, and is used to danger. She's also quick-witted, able to keep a cool head, and can be rather eloquent, capable of convincing varying people (though that may just have something to do with her cute looks, who knows), like managing to disquise Cloud as not only sufficient, but a dashing female, or telling Tifa and Cloud that they shouldn't lose hope just yet: there might be just enough time to stop Shin-Ra's evil plan of destroying the Sector 7 slums. Aerith doesn't often lose her cool, but manages to remain calm through many events, but when she gets angry, she can be rather... well, scary. Gladly, she doesn't really get upset that often, but when that happens, she isn't that fun to be around. She does feel down sometimes, and annoyed, but making her truly distressed takes more than a few simple insults or causing her physical harm. timeline; after her death | |
